    Vol. 27 No. 3 (2023)

The September 2023 issue of WISDOM journal is an anniversary issue․ Since the inaugural issue of “WISDOM” a decade ago, our journey has been replete with industrious academic pursuits, marked by challenges and exhilarating achievements stemming from our resolution to surmount them.

Founded in 2013 the journal has published 30 regular and special editions. These editions have featured more than 300 invaluable contributions authored by eminent scholars and emerging researchers from diverse corners of the globe, spanning a spectrum of philosophical domains․

In commemoration of our 10th anniversary and honouring the esteemed founder and inaugural Editor-in-Chief, Academician Georg Brutian, and his enduring philosophical legacy, we are privileged to present a summary of his profound contributions across several philosophical realms in the monograph entitled “LOGIC, LANGUAGE, AND ARGUMENTATION IN THE CONTEXT OF PHILOSOPHICAL COGNITION” (ISBN: 972-97859-0-2). This seminal work captures the intellectual explorations and insights of Georg Brutian in fields such as the nature of philosophical knowledge, Metaphilosophy, Metaphorical Logic, Polylogic, Argumentation Theory, concepts of Linguistic Complementarity, and the Philosophy of Language. Initially published in 1998 under the auspices of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, this monograph continues to resonate with intellectual vigour. We wish to express our profound gratitude to the leadership of the Gulbenkian Foundation, specifically Director Razmik Panossian, for their invaluable cooperation and gracious permission, allowing the journal “Wisdom” to reintroduce this seminal text in our 2023 commemorative edition.

This issue also comprises three substantive articles that delve into pertinent philosophical and methodological inquiries within the realms of science and social philosophy.

The Editorial Board extends its sincere appreciation to the publisher, Khachatur Abovian Armenian State Pedagogical University, as well as to our esteemed colleagues, authors, and meticulous reviewers, who have played an integral role in the realisation of this milestone publication. We are equally grateful for the inspirational messages and the recommendations we have received on the occasion of our journal’s 10th anniversary.

  • Special Issue: Philosophy of Education
    Vol. 4 No. 3 (2022)

To envision the future of any country or people, it is enough to study its educational system. It is equally difficult to dispute the claim that the roots of all vices – war, crime, social disasters, and virtuous things – peace, humanity, mutual respect, and tolerance – are to be found in the education system.

The prompt processes of public life transformation set forward new demands in terms of traditional review of educational mission organisation and development of new teaching/learning methods and models.

The Editorial Board of WISDOM, highlighting the significance of education issues, presents a special issue – a unique collection of scientific papers dedicated to education problems. The researches involved are for those interested in the educational domain within the framework of scholarly methodology and specific insights. The articles cover methodological issues of the traditional education realm, exploring the potential of modern education, particularising online organisations and management platforms with a particular reference to the experience gained under epidemics and the rapid development of information technologies.

  • 3-2022
    Vol. 23 No. 3 (2022)

Khachatur Abovian Armenian State Pedagogical University offers the scientific community the 3 rd issue of 2022 of the Journal WISDOM dedicated to the 100th anniversary of our University.

Unfortunately, the circumstances that accompanied the compilation of the papers and further editing were more than drastic since, on September 13 and 14, the Azerbaijanian Armed Forces came up with new aggression against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia along the whole eastern frontiers of our country. All again, the military and civil infrastructures were targeted, causing material devastation and human losses. The Azerbaijanian aggression scenario showed even more austerities and violence against Armenia‟s military and civil population, indecently and dishonourably dealing with even females.

The Editorial Board members of WISDOM offer their deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the victims. Our earnest and most assertive plea is to condemn the aggressive and antihuman policy adopted by the Azerbaijanian authorities under Turkey‟s evident and immediate support.

Nevertheless, despite the complexity of the current geopolitical landscape and the existential challenges that Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh are facing at present, the Armenian State Pedagogical University and the Editorial Board of WISDOM remain committed to their aim – to provide the respective platform for disseminating valuable scientific-philosophical ideas and explorations, inspiring discussions and debates over such ideas, as well as introducing promising young researchers and their findings to the international scholarly-philosophical community.

In 2022, the webpage of WISDOM was moved from “Bluehost” to “PKP Publishing Service” hosting, OJS paid platform, in order to secure a more coordinated and uninterrupted online presence.

Since its establishment, the Journal has been improving its rating and quality indicators:

    -  The Scopus SJR monitoring in 2019-2021 raised the Journal from rating position Q4 to Q2. In 2021, the position increased up to Q1.
-The Scopus CiteScore in 2021 was 0,5, while in 2022, it has already become 0,6 which we hope might have increased by the end of the year – hopefully, as feedback to our upcoming September and December issues, as well as the special issue on Education Philosophy.
    - Correspondingly, the Journal Citation Indicator - 0,51 in 2020 became 0,82 in 2021.
-Eventually, within the Art and Humanity field of the Scopus System, WISDOM is number 268 among the officially registered 718 scientific periodicals and 62 among the philosophy journals.

The present issue offers to its readers valuable papers on the respective philosophical insights in social sciences, political sciences, education, religion, arts and culture, as well as in economics and law and political philosophy, education philosophy, and religion philosophy.

We are happy to observe the continuous broadening of the geography of our authors: this time, we are delighted to welcome scholars from Vietnam, India, and Kazakhstan.

The Journal has gained the membership of Publons peer-review and publishing platform within Web of Science. WISDOM keeps advancing its rating on famed platforms Scopus and Web of Science – according to a variety of international assessment standards.

We are proud of the fact that the scientific community worldwide shows more and more interest in the materials published in WISDOM, providing positive feedback. Correspondingly, the increasing number of citations, references, and mentions of the publications in WISDOM assume even more responsibility and inspire more positive motivation among our authors.

  • Special Issue: Philosophy of Language and Literature
    Vol. 3 No. 2 (2022)

The 3rd special issue of WISDOM is dedicated to the philosophical issues of language and literature. The Editorial Board expresses their sincerest gratitude to Tigran MIKAYELYAN, the Literary Editor of WISDOM, the responsible reviewer of the special issue “Philosophy of Language and Literature”, for his rigorous and high-quality reviews.

The philological insight of the modern era seems to be moving from the hermeneutic roots – rethought in the post-modernistic context – towards the pragmatic bases of global interaction with the most generic skills – skills relevant to the 21st century – appear to comprise more and more components of autonomous linguistic creativity. Therefore, the status-based language characteristics tend to be substituted by impressionistic language intercourse skills, and, consequently, the rhetoric eloquence is deputised by the efficiency and flexibility of negotiations, conflict solutions and, in the worst of cases, manipulations.

The unprecedented pace of information exchange of the current epoch relegates one of the core functions of the human language – safeguarding the human existence through the virtual linguomental virtuality layer that has been developing in every and each interaction – both interpersonally and globally. Unfortunately, the same technologically grounded swiftness of communication has resulted in drastic distortions between the linguistic processes (speech flow, discourse, speech act, infinite series of unrecorded reiterations of language use) and pieces of linguistic creativity (culturally enhanced language units, new language formations, and pieces of literary art). At the same time, the outputs of technological breakthroughs seem to have rearranged the priorities of the respective paradigms in language and literature throughout the world. The technological advancement has resulted in the top priority of the instrumental paradigm, opting for the language as a tool of desired social conventions – in line with the non-idiosyncratic and culture-free patterns and cliches of globalisation trends. The instrumental highlights, quite naturally, have influenced the respective paradigm of idiolects resulting in clashes between the individual creativity visions, on the one hand, and popularised or stereotyped linguistic outlines of restrictive character. Successively, the current universal paradigm of language and literature seems to reconsider the fundamental nature of language to human life, character, and activities, attributing purposes to human language – broader than those of a sheer tool of communication, recognition, persuasion, and manipulation. The human language, therefore, is recognised as capable of offering profound clues to human phylogenesis and ontogenesis.

In the globalising world, language and one of its recorded outputs – literature – keep maintaining the relevance of their typological paradigm not only as a feature that allows distinguishing Humankind from other biological species with whom we share the planet but also as a criterion of inner idiosyncrasy that should be explored and made use of for better understanding, more effective interaction, and more profound and quality mutuality. Thus the internal duality of language systems – open word-stock system and closed grammar system – submitted to the melting pot of the globalising world gives rise to both positive and negative tendencies that we can observe in progress: the birth of Lingua Franca with worldwide coverage, way more quality cross-cultural communication, on the one hand, and such crises as an oversimplification of language economy principle, gradual minimisation of the aesthetic impact of language forms, reduction of the bond of intertextuality and cross-textuality, etc.

The present issue of WISDOM is a unique platform for indulging in research within the domains mentioned above and the variety of linguistic and communication contexts and perspectives from different linguocultural realms.

  • 1-2022
    Vol. 21 No. 1 (2022)

1(21), 2022 issue of WISDOM is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Khachatur Abovian Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU). • 4-2021
    Vol. 20 No. 4 (2021)

The year 2021 was full of dramatic events as well as significant successes for the Editorial Board of WISDOM.

Both the Editorial Board and the Armenian contributors have been obliged to cope with the dramatic circumstances resulting from the antihuman war against the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabagh) initiated on September 27, 2020, by Azerbaijan and upon the apparent support of Turkey, involving 4000 mercenary-terrorists. The devastating war left behind over 5000 victims, 10.000 injured, and ruined kindergartens and cultural institutions. The Azeri and pro-Azeri forces also attempted encroachments on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.

Nevertheless, this is a jubilee year for WISDOM: March 24, 2021, marked the 95th anniversary of Academician Georg Brutian – the founder of the journal WISDOM. Therefore, in different issues of 2021, papers dedicated to the Yerevan School’s investigations by G. Brutian’s theoretical epistemological, methodological perspectives, transformational logic, conceptions of polylogic and linguistic complementarity, theory and questions of argumentation have been published.

The current issue – the conclusive one in 2021, comprises valuable publications devoted to the questions of history of philosophy, social and political philosophy, philosophy of education and science, theory of argumentation, philosophy of art and culture.

  • Special Issue: Philosophy of Law
    Vol. 1 No. 1 (2021)

Legal issues invariably concern legal scholars and representatives of the scientific community in various fields of knowledge. There is no doubt that law is the most important means of arranging social life, developing communication links between people, improving social interactions. It occupies a central place in our political, economic and moral life. At the same time, the problem of the essence of the law becomes the subject of theoretical analysis from different, sometimes polar positions. Law is a complexly organized object that requires interdisciplinary discourse to reveal this essence, and in which the philosophical understanding of the law is definitely a centrepiece since only the philosophy of law has the arsenal of theoretical and methodological possibilities that allows one to gain an understanding of law in its integrity and being. The proposed issue of the philosophical journal WISDOM presents the original author’s concepts of leading scientists of various philosophical and legal schools of Russia, Armenia, and Ukraine, which will help comprehend the fundamental problems of comprehending nature and meaning of the law.

The Armenian State Pedagogical University and the WISDOM Editorial Board are pleased to present the first special issue of the journal on “Philosophy of Law”. The articles presented in the issue reflect the current issues in the field in question.

The guest editor of the issue is Konstantin SIGALOV, Doctor of Juridical Sciences, PhD of Philosophy Science, professor at the Chair of Theory of Law and State of the V. Ya. Kikot Moscow University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Moscow.

The issue includes 22 articles, the authors of which represent Russia, Armenia and Ukraine.

  • Wisdom

    3-2020
    Vol. 16 No. 3 (2020)

The present issue of WISDOM has been completed under emergency and truly unusual circumstances.

On September 27, 2020, the Azerbaijani army, under the support of Turkey, and involving 4000 terrorist-mercenaries provoked large-scale warfare against the Republic of Artsakh (aka Nagorno-Karabakh). The Defence Army of Artsakh, the civil dwellings and infrastructures, including the kindergartens, schools and hospitals, the maternity hospital of the capital city Stepanakert, and the churches were shelled by missile systems, cannons and howitzers, artillery systems “Grad”, “Smerch”, “Polonez”, “Solntsepyok” (TOS-1А), as well as LORA Israeli missile. The attacked were launched making use of Prohibited cluster and phosphor bombs banned by the respective international conventions, with large-scale use of strike-reconnaissance state-of-the-art drones, aviation, heavily armoured vehicles of Turkish and Israel production.

In order to satisfy their territorial ambitions, Azerbaijan and Turkey, in tandem, have persistently been opposing to the power of argument, the logic of legality, the norms of moral and humanity – this time, supplying their “counterarguments” through military aggression, economic and political terror and military atrocities.

During the 44-day-long war, the Defence Army of Artsakh and the local population had thousands of victims, tens of thousands of wounded and displaced people, there were also territorial losses with imposed concessions to the aggressor.

Thus, the present issue of WISDOM is dedicated to the memory of the soldiers and civilians who died for the defence of the Republic of Artsakh.

Since 2018, WISDOM has been involved in the famed Index Copernicus Polish database system that provides an annual report on abstracting and indexing of scientific periodicals. This year, WISDOM is rated as the 6th periodical on Philosophy and contiguous domains among the 500 journals of a similar field of expertise (for further details and verifications, we encourage to follow the link: https://journals.indexcopernicus.com/search/form?mniswDisciplines=DS010102N&mniswTo=20).

This issue comprises articles covering current theories, on-going disputes, and up-to-date theses on a wide range of philosophical and interdisciplinary insight – History of Philosophy, Social and Political Philosophy, Education Philosophy, Science, Art and Law Philosophy, Epystemiology, Rhetorics, Argumentation Theory, and Metaphilosophy.

The geography of the Scholars has expanded as well – Armenia, Russia, India, Ukraine, Belorus, and Kazakhistan. Loyal to its stick-to-it-iveness, WISDOM shares the delight and honour of welcoming both renowned scholars and young researchers of promising scientific zeal and charge.

  • 2-2020
    Vol. 15 No. 2 (2020)

The Armenian State Pedagogical University and the Editorial Board of WISDOM are delighted to present the 15th issue of the journal (the second one in 2020) to the scientific community. Both the previous and present issues of WISDOM were destined to be prepared under the variety of psychological and even physical turmoil caused by COVID 19 pandemic putting our endeavours to the test. Nowadays, more than ever, as we believe, any intellectual and creative individual, in particular, grows more and more reliant on their own and other people’s wisdom in order to realise, perceive, comprehend, value, and generalise, under the current circumstances, the transformations occurring within their own and other people’s rationale, as well as, the activities and conduct stemming from the latter. Now we can only hope that the results of ongoing experiment-based explorations will enable the Natural Sciences to come up with the particular philosophical sensibility and interpretive prospects so that, while overcoming the unknowledgeable, the knowledge and the innovative means of gaining it could provide the humanity with shrewd behaviour together with level-headed ways of harmonious survival.

We are also pleased to inform of the two attainments that WISDOM has recently gained. First of all, having solved some technical issues, the Editorial Board and the periodical have been granted with membership within LOCKSS (The Global LOCKSS Network, see: https://www. lockss.org/join-lockss/networks/global-lockss-network) – a prominent platform that, from now on, will deposit the electronic version of our journal.

Moreover, the second accomplishment was announced on May 06, 2020: Scopus international scientometric database reckoned the Cite Score Tracker for WISDOM – 0.2 – and the journal appeared as number 406 among 606 periodicals on Arts and Humanities: Philosophy (see: https://www.scopus.com/sourceid/2110087 3483).

This issue is offering a novel section, Philosophy of law, which addresses the following matters: fundamental rights in philosophy of law, freedom of thought and manipulation, aggression and crime, international and national criminal law, patriotism and Armenian law.

    1-2017
    Vol. 8 No. 1 (2017)

The current 1(8), 2017 issue of the journal “Wisdom” includes the selected talks introduced at the International Conference Life and Philosophy dedicated to the memory and 90th anniversary of the Academician Georg Brutian, organized by Khachatur Abovyan Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), International Academy for Philosophy (IAPh), and Armenian Philosophical Academy (APA) on November 22-23, 2016. The discussion of these talks in the conference sections is considered as an actual substitute for review procedure, necessary for publication. The articles involved discuss the current problems of Epistemology, Philosophy of Science, Methodology, Metaphilosophy, Argumentation, Socio-political Philosophy and History of Philosophy. Like all previous issues, this one also contains the Chair of Young Scientist – this time including the research results of three authors. Taking into consideration the respect and great interest of Armenian and world scientific community to the scientific, social and political activities of Austrian Philosopher, Professor of Innsbruck University Hans Köchler, the urgency and principal importance of his Philosophy and Democratic Prejudice talk presented at the Plenary Session of the aforementioned conference for the solution of the controversial issues in modern world, the Editorial Board of the journal considered it expedient to publish the text of the talk in this issues devoid of the rigidity of scientific articles.

    2-2016
    Vol. 7 No. 2 (2016)

The distinctiveness of the volume reminds us the days of its establishment and entry to the world of scientific periodicals. The publication of the first issue in 2013 by Academician Georg Brutian was remarkable since it was compiled from the results of the international conference Theoretical and Practical Issues of Transforming Society Development: Philosophical and Psychological Aspects (April 16-17, 2012, Yerevan) organized under his presidency. Khachatur Abovian Armenian State Pedagogical University (ASPU), International Academy for Philosophy (IAPh) and Armenian Philosophical Academy (APA) were the organizers of the conference. The first two issues of “Wisdom” included the texts of the selected talks of the conference from two main perspectives –Philosophy and Psychology –in accordance with the sections of the conference. After four years, on November 22-23, 2016, the aforementioned institutions orga-nized a new international conference Life and Philosophy, unfortunately, this time without Academician Georg Brutian, therefore dedicated to his memory and 90th anniversary.

The conference was likewise large in its geographical coverage and participation. Brutian disliked birthday celebrations and honoring ceremonies and he would havenever allowed celebration of his anniversary. Thus, it was a kind of predestination, even after his death he stays still true to his motto – always supporting and helping his students, colleagues, young scientists, once more creating a platform for demonstrating their scientific achievements, acquiring international recognition, and raising the level of academic confidence.

    Vol. 6 No. 1 (2016)

The current volume includes four sections which comprise articles devoted to Metaphilosophy, Philosophy of Science and Epistemology, Social Philosophy, Issues of Social Transformations and Progress. Both in December 2015 and February 2016, World’s philosophical community suffered two losses of Armenian philosophers: the founder of International Academy for Philosophy, Founder-Editor-in-chief of “Wisdom”, Academician Georg Brutian, and member of International Academy for Philosophy, Professor Haig Khatchadourian who also had significant contribution to the publication of the journal by the relevant novelty of his scientific ideas and research works. Thus, we were obliged to think of a new rubric “In Memoriam” to pay tribute to our late Colleagues and Associates – hopeful to refer there to as few names as it is possible. We keep publishing new research works of renowned scientists of international recognition, stimulating discussions over their works. At the same time, we are consistent in opening up the papers of young researchers to the wide scientific community. “Wisdom” expands its indexes of availability to the scientific community and representation throughout international electronic platforms. We have been involved in the list of scientific periodicals recognized by the Supreme Certifying Commission of the Republic of Armenia among other rated periodicals that address fundamental results and theses of dissertations (Doctor of Science and Ph.D. degree dissertations). “Wisdom” is registered in Scientific Indexing Services (SIS), Journal Impact Factor (JIF), Eurasian Scientific Journal Index (ESJI), Scientific Journal Impact Factor (SJIF), International Scientific Indexing (ISI), European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Sciences (ERIH PLUS), and Advanced Scientific Index (ASI) databases.
